In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Monday, the IGP outlined that the deployment forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s proactive security strategy for the Yuletide period.
All Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) have been instructed to intensify patrols, ensure visible policing, carry out intelligence-led operations, and engage communities to boost confidence in the Force.
Specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police, and Airwing, have been placed on heightened alert.
“The deployment also focuses on places of worship, recreational centres, markets, parks, event venues, transport terminals, highways, critical national infrastructure, and other high-density public spaces,” the statement said.
“Additional patrol teams and surveillance units have also been activated to cover inter-state routes and major expressways to prevent road-related crimes, traffic disorder, and accidents.”
Officers have been instructed to exercise firmness coupled with courtesy in the discharge of their duties.
Further, the Inspector-General directed all Commands to sustain operations targeting identified criminal blackspots, forests, hideouts, and flashpoints.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and local community stakeholders to achieve holistic security coverage across the nation.
While wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and prosperous New Year, the IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through available emergency lines.
“The Nigeria Police Force assures all Nigerians of steadfast commitment to ensuring that the Yuletide season and beyond are celebrated in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and security,” the statement added.
