Lawyer and public commentator Dele Farotimi has reacted to the decision by President Bola Tinubu to appoint Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.
Bellnews reports that Farotimi shared his views in an interview with The Citizenship Project, where he spoke about Omokri’s new diplomatic role and the possible risks attached to the posting.
He said the federal government should take steps to ensure that Omokri is well protected while carrying out his duties in Mexico.
According to Farotimi, Omokri had previously made several remarks about drug cartels, and this could place him in a sensitive position now that he has been sent to serve in Mexico.
Because of this, he said the government must put strong security measures in place for the new ambassador.
Farotimi explained that the authorities should provide Omokri with high-level protection, including the use of bulletproof vehicles and protective vests.
He stated that such safety measures would be necessary to guard against any danger that could arise during his diplomatic service in the country.
In Farotimi’s words: “You sent Omokri to Mexico after he had been busy running his teeth about drug cartels. Oh well, he had better made sure that that one has a lot of bulletproof cars and vests in that place that he has gone to. But whenever I speak to these things let us understand clearly that I speak to them so you will understand that a window has been opened into how Nigeria operates”
President Bola Tinubu recently appointed Reno Omokri to represent Nigeria in Mexico as part of new diplomatic postings announced by the federal government.
Omokri, a former presidential aide, has been active in political commentary for many years and often shares his views on national and international issues through social media.
