Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has undertaken a significant initiative to enhance various sectors in the state. In a ceremony held in Lokoja, the state capital, Governor Bello presented 25 ambulances to all local government areas, some tertiary institutions, and fire-fighting vans to the state’s Fire Service. This move is aimed at fortifying the health sector, considered one of the best in the country, and improving the rapid response to emergencies.
Additionally, the governor distributed 40 SUV cars and four Hilux vans to judges and lawmakers in the state. Emphasizing the autonomy granted to the judiciary and local government, Governor Bello highlighted the administration’s commitment to service delivery. He expressed pride in the achievements of the health sector, citing the reference specialist hospital in Okene, recognized as the best in Sub Saharan Africa.
Governor Bello outlined the state’s focus on healthcare needs, with the 2024 budget dedicated to employment generation for healthcare providers and the consolidation of existing infrastructure. Addressing fire safety concerns, he underscored the importance of efficiently combating fire incidents with the newly provided fire service vehicles.
Assuring continued intervention for the well-being of the people, Governor Bello pledged sustained efforts until the last minutes of his administration. The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Umar Aliyu, commended the governor’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality services, particularly acknowledging the support provided to legislators.
Dr. Usman Zakari, the Commissioner for Health in Kogi State, lauded Governor Bello as a game-changer in the state’s health sector. He highlighted the employment of over 3000 health workers and improvements in infrastructure following a needs assessment in 2018. The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Josiah Mejabi, expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing the welfare of judges, emphasizing its positive impact on enhanced judicial service delivery in the state.
