The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has rejected the reconciliation move made by the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti.
Describing Otti’s call for reconciliation as dishonest and ill-fated, the LP National Working Committee led by Abure said the crisis rocking the party remains unresolved.
Recall that Otti had called on the Abure-led team to sheathe their swords and work together towards strengthening the party alongside the committee led by Nenadi Usman.
The governor had said, “We have agreed that there is a need to establish a reconciliation committee.
“The interim National Working Committee will advise on the appropriate time to set it up. The goal is to reconcile all members who are willing to return,” Otti stated.
This call by Otti followed the delisting of Abure’s team from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal after a court’s order which named Usman as the authentic leader of the Labour Party.
However, in its reaction, the Abure-led faction accused the Abia governor of playing a major role in triggering the crisis within the party.
Speaking on the matter, Obiora Ifoh, the spokesperson for the party said, “We are not interested in any reconciliation move being proposed by Governor Alex Otti because he is largely responsible for the crisis facing the party today.
“What we witnessed was a decision of a court of first instance. Why can’t he wait for the outcome of the appeal before talking about reconciliation?” Ifoh queried.
He also accused the governor of being in a rush, especially “when the battle is far from over”.
