The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Adeyemi, has drawn reactions on social media following a video showing him arriving in his home state of Kogi in a convoy during the Easter period.
Adeyemi reportedly returned to the state for a series of official and courtesy visits, including engagements with traditional rulers and stakeholders.
In a post on X, the Federal Fire Service stated that the visit was part of efforts to engage community leaders and promote fire safety awareness.
“CGF Olumode Samuel Adeyemi returns home to Kogi, receives royal blessings, as stakeholders commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and call for stronger fire safety. Fire station in Kabba underway,” the post read.
According to a press statement issued by the service, Adeyemi, who was decorated as Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service on August 14, 2025, undertook several visits across the state.
During the trip, he paid courtesy calls on traditional rulers including Muyiwa Ibeun, the Elulu of Mopa, and Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja.
He also visited Odo-Ape, his hometown, where he was reportedly received with cultural displays, drumming and royal prayers for a successful tenure.
The delegation later visited Solomon Owoniyi, the Obaro of Kabba, before proceeding to a reception held at the Olonijola Event Centre in Kabba.
The reception was attended by several dignitaries, including Kogi State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu Oyibo, who represented Governor Usman Ododo.
Others present included Durosinmi Meseko, National Deputy Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Ibrahim Alhaji Liman, a former Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service.
During the event, traditional rulers and other stakeholders reportedly commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Adeyemi to lead the service.
“Stakeholders used the occasion to advocate he for strengthened fire safety infrastructure in the state,” the statement noted.
The Maigari of Lokoja called for the establishment of a National Fire Training School in Kogi State, while the Obaro of Kabba appealed for the construction of a Fire Station in Kabba, the headquarters of Kogi West.
Responding to the requests, Adeyemi said the Federal Fire Service was already working toward establishing a fire station in Kabba.
According to him, the project would help address recurring fire incidents in the area.
He also sought continued support and collaboration from stakeholders.
Meanwhile, a video showing the Controller-General entering the state in a convoy with outriders has triggered reactions on social media.
Several Nigerians questioned the display, particularly in light of ongoing challenges in emergency response infrastructure across the country.
A user on X, @laplace_bopm, wrote, “No wonder there is no water in your station; you all use your lean resources to fund the lifestyle of your bosses.”
Another user, @TheOmegaM, described the development as a waste of public resources.
“A country that lacks basic amenities and has the head of the Fire Service moving around like an emperor shows a complete lack of focus,” the user wrote.
Similarly, @Bashir GS criticised the display, saying it reflected misplaced priorities.
“Imagine displaying such nonsense in a country where we don’t have enough fire service stations. These are misplaced priorities,” the user wrote.
Another commenter, @Napp06, also questioned the optics of the convoy.
“I can’t believe the page of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria that’s non-existent in major cities across the country is recording such show of force and importance with public funds,” the user wrote.
