The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that vehicular movement will be restricted only in Surulere Federal Constituency I during the upcoming bye-election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024. This clarification was provided by the State Command Public Relations Officer, SP Hundeyin, in response to erroneous speculations that the restriction would apply to the entire commercial city.

In a statement posted on Friday, Hundeyin emphasized that the restriction order, imposed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, only pertains to the Surulere area where the bye-election is set to take place and not to all parts of Lagos.

The restriction period is from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm on the day of the election. Hundeyin outlined that Funsho Williams Avenue would remain open for passage, but movement into and out of feeder roads off Funsho Williams Avenue would not be permitted during the specified hours.

He further clarified that there is no restriction of movement for other parts of Lagos State outside the Surulere Federal Constituency I area. The vacancy in the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 position arose after President Bola Tinubu appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, who won the post in the 2023 elections, as his chief of staff.
