Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu has debunked allegations by the United States government that there is an ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed, while speaking during an interview with Trust Television on Wednesday, November 5, said it is worrisome that the US has taken it upon itself to champion false narratives against Nigeria.

He said it should also be on record that the recent threat and pronouncement made by the US president is a result of the failure of the Nigerian government to deal with the challenges of insecurity in the country.

His words, “I make these comments with all sense of responsiblity because it is important for Nigeria to recognise the fact that, in addition to all the problems that we face, we have faced the possiblity that a foreign country is likely to consider us as a country that is available to be sanctioned or occupied or attacked or punished for our leadership failure to deal with the problem of insecurity.”

He condemned citizens’ reactions to the proclamation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and threat by President, Donald Trump.

The former Northern Elders Forum spokesperson also cautioned citizens to ensure they do not make themselves available to be used as pawns by the US which he said might be setting Nigerians up against each other.

He said, “The US which is triggering this hysteria against Nigeria and the threats, knows very well that there is no genocide against Christians in this country.

“Muslims and Christians have been killed without regard to what faith they have. Genocide is what Israel was doing in Gaza and in Palestinian lands and the US knows it in real time and in legal terms.

“The world has condemned what Israel has been doing and the world has been saying that Israel has been involved in genocide,” Baba-Ahmed said.
