A devastating blast at Solar Industries India, a factory specializing in the production of drones and explosives in Nagpur city, Maharashtra state, has resulted in the loss of at least nine lives. The explosion occurred on Sunday while workers were in the packing area of the facility.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep regret, stating, “It is very unfortunate that nine people, including six women, died in the explosion at Solar Industries in Nagpur.” The company is known for manufacturing drones and explosives for the country’s defense forces.

The state government has pledged financial assistance, announcing a compensation of $6,000 for each family affected by this tragic incident. Alongside the fatalities, at least three workers sustained injuries in the blast.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Industrial disasters are unfortunately not uncommon in India, with experts attributing such incidents to inadequate planning and lax enforcement of safety regulations.

This incident comes on the heels of a series of similar tragedies. In 2022, 11 lives were lost in Bihar state due to an explosion in a house where firecrackers were being illegally manufactured. In 2021, a blast at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of 19 people. The recurrence of such incidents underscores the pressing need for robust safety measures and stricter enforcement of regulations in India’s industrial landscape
