ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a crucial meeting with governors and key security chiefs at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, to address the prevailing hardships in the country.
Reliable sources indicate that President Tinubu called for the meeting in light of the economic challenges gripping the nation and the recent surge in insecurity across various regions.
Present at the emergency session are Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike.
Since assuming leadership and announcing the removal of subsidies, President Tinubu’s administration has witnessed a downturn in the economy, leading to increased hardships and a spike in living costs.
This situation has prompted protests from women and youth, along with a rise in criminal activities, intensifying tensions in the nation.
President Tinubu has instructed his economic team and relevant government officials to explore solutions to alleviate the situation. Additionally, the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency has been authorized to provide approximately 102,000 metric tons of assorted items, including rice, maize, and millet, among others.
The ongoing emergency meeting aims to devise strategies to address the escalating cost of food items, insecurity, and other economic challenges.
Among the state governors in attendance are representatives from Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, Edo, Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, and Enugu.
