The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party has decried the incessant killing of residents of Taraba, Kogi, Plateau and Benue states.
Obi said the activities of bandits and terrorists in states across Nigeria which involve killing, and kidnapping for ransom among others are not befitting of a nation like Nigeria.
In a post made on X, Obi said these criminal acts are not just mere violence but a failure of leadership which has transcended to strangulating the soul of the nation.
Citing how the wave of the incessant killings has rendered children orphans, wives, widows and in some instances, wiped out an entire family, Obi said response from relevant government agencies remains weak and mute.
“These are not mere statistics, they are our fellow Nigerians. Each life lost is a tragedy that must not be ignored.
“I have always maintained that the primary duty of the National government is the protection of life and property.
“When this duty is repeatedly ignored when innocent citizens are butchered and nothing changes, we must ask ourselves: What kind of nation are we building? What future are we promising our children?” Obi queried.
Also commiserating with families of victims affected by the gruesome killings, the former governor said he will continue to speak against these inhumane acts as silence in the face of horror translates to complicity.
“We need urgent action, not rhetoric. We need justice, not excuses. We as leaders must value human life and will defend it with everything we have.
“Nigeria can not continue like this. This is not the Nigeria we deserve. We must end this bloodshed. We must reclaim our humanity,” Obi wrote.
