The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared the reported suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe by her ward in Wuse as null and void.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ward lacked the authority to suspend a sitting senator from the party.
Abdullahi dismissed the reported action while responding to enquiries from Leadership Newspaper.
Initially reacting to the development, he said he had not received any official information confirming the suspension.
“I don’t know. I don’t have this information,” he said.
However, he explained that even if such a decision had been taken at the ward level, it would have no constitutional standing.
“The ward does not have such powers to suspend a senator from the party. They don’t know what they are doing,” Abdullahi stated.
Reacting to the development, Senator Kingibe also described the reported suspension as illegal and without effect.
She insisted that those behind the move lacked the constitutional authority to take such action.
According to the lawmaker, the individuals responsible for the announcement acted in ignorance of the party’s constitution.
