The appeal, filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar, challenges the victory of Ahmad Aliyu as Sokoto State Governor.

The five-member panel, headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, concluded proceedings and reserved judgment after hearing arguments from the involved parties. The Court of Appeal in Abuja had previously upheld Aliyu’s election.

Umar and the PDP contended that Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, were ineligible for the governorship contest. They also claimed that the election suffered from irregularities and lacked substantial compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022.

Despite the Court of Appeal dismissing their appeal on grounds of lacking merit, Umar and the PDP sought recourse from the Supreme Court, leading to the ongoing legal proceedings.
