Popular Nigerian public commentator and human rights advocate Reno Omokri has applauded the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to redesign some Naira notes.
His response follows CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele’s announcement to journalists on Wednesday that the N200, N500, and N1000 would be redesigned, with changes taking effect in December 2022.
In his response on social media, Omokri emphasizes on the impact it might have on terrorists who might have money in stockpiles they weren’t able to take to the bank. He claims that it will make the money unusable.
The pound and the dollar were also mentioned, and he stated, “On this, Emefiele did well.”
His post read, “The redesign of the Naira is a good idea. Kidnappers, bandits and corrupt elements have stockpiles of Naira that they can’t bank. This change will render their billions useless. The pound and dollar have been redesigned multiple times. On this, Emefiele did well!”
