There was commotion on Monday evening in the Okehi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State after some unknown gunmen suspected to be terrorists reportedly blew off the administrative offices in the area.
The attacked building is close to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facility in the local government area.
The commission and the Kogi State command of the Nigerian Police Force are, however, yet to react to the incident, although it was learnt that detectives had been deployed to the scene.
It could be recalled that the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, had claimed responsibility for several attacks in the state recently.
The terrorist group recently claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion that killed about four people and injured several others in the Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State in January, Naija News recalls.
Explosion Rocks Delta Community, Causes Tension Among Residents
Meanwhile, an explosion rocked a gas plant in Efurrun, a community in the Uvwie Local Government Council Area of Delta State, on Monday evening.
The incident reportedly happened at a gas station identified as the NELMIC gas plant, located after Effurun market, opposite the Effurun post office.
Bellnewsonline.com could not ascertain yet what led to the explosion as details of the incident are still sketchy as of the time of filling this report.
However, residents have been calling for help to contain the fire outbreak. Those plying Effurun/Sapele road have been advised to take another route while the inferno caused by the explosion subsidies.
A resident who gave his name as Sunday Musa told newsmen that the gas station went up in flames around 10:30 pm.
” I saw it from far as Ginuwa road, and I suddenly saw huge red flames in the sky that just lasted some seconds and began to wonder what it was. Thanks to God for we have not recorded any casualty,” Musa told Bellnewsonline.com.
