A Nigerian man has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of his wife, Bellnews has learnt.
Two other suspected accomplices are in police net in connection to the crime, according to the police.
The incident happened on Wednesday in the victim’s matrimonial home at number 5, Road 4, Police Estate, in the Kurudu neighborhood of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital.
Residents of the estate were thrown into mourning when news of the murder of a middle aged woman whose name was not immediately known filtered.
Sources in the neighborhood informed of sighting a young man loitering around the deceased person’s residence shortly before she was found dead in pool of blood.
Speaking with Bellnews, an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “The suspected assassin came to the house on a motorcycle popularly known as “rubber-rubber”, parked in front of the house, moved around the vicinity before entering the house.”
Further investigation revealed that the husband, now a prime suspect discovered the corpse and attempted to conceal it.
“Instead of him to raise an alarm, he decided to take the corpse of his late wife away through the back door, warning his children not to raise alarm also.
“He, probably may have succeeded in evacuating the remains but for the vigilant security operatives in the Estate who suspected his movements. They stopped him while driving out, searched his car and the wife’s corpse was found inside.
“When confronted he retorted that an unknown assailant butchered his wife,” another resident said.
According to the resident, the deceased person’s husband deliberately left the gate of the house open to give the assailant easy access when he took his daughter to school on the ill-fated day.
On what may have provoked the action? The resident further disclosed, “trouble started some time last year when the deceased person suspected the husband was having an affair with her younger sister. And the sister was said to have vowed not to quit the illicit affair,” the source added.
The murder case was reported at the Police Division headquarters, Kurudu, Abuja while the remains were deposited at the Asokoro General Hospital morgue, according to a senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity for want of authority to speak to the press.
He said, “Three suspects, including the late woman’s husband are in our custody. We’ll investigate discreetly untill all those connected to the heinous crime are apprehended for prosecution.”
When contacted on Saturday morning, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, promised to obtain details of the matter and get back.
However, she could not get back as of the time of filing this report.
