The Super Eagles are set to resume training in preparation for their Round of 16 encounter against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in Cote D’Ivoire. The team’s media officer, Babafemi Raji, announced in a statement that closed-door training sessions are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, following a rest day observed by the squad on Tuesday.

Training has been taking place at the Police College, Cocody, since the Super Eagles’ arrival in Abidjan for the AFCON. The statement further mentioned that the media will be granted access to the Friday session for the first 15 minutes.

Under the guidance of coach Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles secured their place in the knockout stages of the 34th edition of the AFCON by defeating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in Abidjan. The decisive goal came in the 36th minute when Opa Sangante inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net while attempting to prevent it from reaching prolific Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

The eagerly anticipated Round of 16 clash against Cameroon is scheduled to take place at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday, with the kickoff set for 9 pm Nigeria time. The Super Eagles aim to advance further in the competition and add to their three-time African champion status.
