Chaos erupted at the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) convention in Abuja on Friday as heavy gunfire rocked the old parade ground near the International Conference Center.
Videos circulating online show students, who had gathered to elect a new set of national leaders, scrambling for safety amid the sound of gunfire.
The cause of the shooting remains unclear. However, police officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to quell the situation.
