South Africa’s ambassador to France, Ambassador Nkosinathi Emmanuel Mthethwa has been found dead at the foot of the Hyatt Regency hotel, a high-rise tower in the west of Paris.
It was gathered from the Paris prosecutor’s office that the lifeless body was found on Tuesday.
Bellnews reports that Ambassador Nkosinathi’s wife had on Monday, declared him missing.
The prosecutor’s office said the wife raised the alarm after she received a disturbing text message from the husband.
A security window of a room on the 22nd floor where he reportedly booked was forcefully opened on Tuesday morning.
The authority said an investigation was ongoing and it could not preempt its outcome.
French news outlets including Le Parisien said Mthethwa was believed to have killed himself, without citing a source.
South Africa’s foreign affairs department confirmed the Ambassador’s death, adding that the circumstances were under investigation by the French authorities.
