Seven senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force may retire following the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Disu after ex-IGP Kayode Egbetokun stepped down from the position, citing family considerations.

It is a longstanding tradition in the force for senior officers to retire when a junior officer is appointed IGP, a practice rooted in hierarchy and institutional stability though not legally binding.

Among those likely to be affected is Mohammed Gumel, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Adebola Hamzat, DIG overseeing logistics and supply, may also retire. Yahaya Abubakar, who heads the department of finance and administration, is among those listed.

Basil Idegwu, DIG in charge of research and planning, could also be affected,M Bzigu Kwazhi, DIG operations, is also among the senior officers.

Idris Abubakar and Adebowale Williams, both serving in senior leadership capacities, may equally be impacted by the development.
