Workers under the aegis of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Rivers State chapter, on Thursday, shunned the traditional Workers’ Day celebration, opting instead for a protest in support of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The labour unions gathered at the NLC state secretariat in Port Harcourt and are expected to commence the protest march in defence of Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu, who were suspended alongside all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in March.
The Rivers NLC had earlier announced plans to boycott the annual May Day celebration following the move by the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the state.
