The Presidency has refuted fresh allegations by United States Senator Ted Cruz claiming that Christians are being massacred in Nigeria.
In a post on his official X handle, Senator Cruz alleged that more than 50,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since 2009, while over 18,000 churches and 2,000 Christian schools have been destroyed by Muslim extremists.
Responding to the claims, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, dismissed the allegations, insisting that no Christian genocide is taking place in Nigeria.
He urged Senator Cruz and television host Bill Maher to desist from spreading misinformation, stressing that Nigeria is battling terrorism that affects people of all faiths.
“Senator Ted Cruz and Bill Maher et al would do well to engage with the facts before amplifying falsehoods that embolden extremists and malign an entire nation,” Dare stated.
“Nigeria deserves solidarity in its fight against terror, not careless rhetoric that fuels misunderstanding.
“The truth remains simple: Nigeria is not witnessing a Christian genocide; it is confronting terrorism that targets everyone,” he added.
