The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued a pregnant woman (identity withheld) who was abducted in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the rescue in an exclusive statement to PUNCH Metro on Thursday.
The incident took place around 11:05 pm on Christmas Day, Monday, where armed gunmen ambushed a couple in front of their residence. The attackers kidnapped the pregnant wife and left the husband unharmed. The Divisional Police Officer in Ijebu-Igbo received a distress call, leading to the dispatch of a police team to the scene.
According to Odutola, the husband reported that while they were entering their house, six armed men suddenly emerged from the bush, kidnapped his wife, and disappeared. The rescue operation involved the DPO, police officers, So-Safe Corps, Amotekun operatives, and others, who combed through the bush for hours before successfully locating and rescuing the abducted woman on Tuesday.
The rescued woman was promptly taken to the hospital for necessary medical attention. Odutola highlighted the emerging trend of kidnappers infiltrating communities for their operations, emphasizing the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to address this challenge. She urged traditional rulers and community leaders to establish internal security measures, providing necessary information to aid the security of lives and property.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, affirmed the commitment to rooting out criminals from the state, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to enhance security in the communities. Odutola concluded by encouraging villagers to collaborate with the police by identifying strangers in their communities and providing relevant information to ensure the safety of all residents.
