The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has reported the rescue of a pregnant woman who suffered assault at the hands of her husband in the Mushin area of the state.
Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, revealed this development in a statement issued in Lagos. According to her, the agency received a distress call on Wednesday regarding a reported case of domestic violence.
Following the tragic incident involving a seven-month pregnant woman losing her life due to domestic violence, the DSVA received another distress call involving a pregnant woman allegedly assaulted by her husband.
The statement explained that the pregnant woman was physically attacked by her partner, who then locked her inside their Mushin apartment. The alleged assault resulted in the pregnant woman losing consciousness, and neighbors intervened, rescuing her and rushing her to the general hospital for medical assistance.
Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized that the DSVA promptly reported the case to the police, leading to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
“DSVA immediately contacted the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, and Police Officers from Mushin police station were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident. The suspect has since been apprehended while the survivor is still in an unconscious state,” she stated.
The DSVA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for sexual and domestic violence, emphasizing the State Government’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable. Vivour-Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the neighbors for seeking help and reaching out to the agency.
The DSVA head urged individuals experiencing domestic violence to break the silence and speak out against such incidents.
