Controversial singer, Portable, was arraigned on Monday at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge that includes assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
Confirming the charges, Ogun police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, told TheCable Lifestyle that the charges were related to a series of incidents involving the singer, including an alleged assault on his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, and others.
The singer’s arraignment follows the release of a viral video on Sunday, which showed him in police custody. The video was reportedly linked to a complaint filed by Ashabi Simple, who accused the singer of assault.
The prosecution alleged that Portable attacked Ashabi along with several police officers and other individuals at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.
In addition to the assault charge, Portable is accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at ₦12 million, which belonged to Ileyemi Damilola.
The car was reportedly obtained from Wally Dex Auto. Other victims named in the case include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
In court, Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, though she was not present. The police also accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, while she was carrying out her official duties.
The presiding judge, after hearing the testimonies, denied Portable bail, citing the absence of the police officer who was allegedly assaulted. The judge insisted on seeing the officer before ruling on the bail application.
Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody, with a fresh bail hearing scheduled for January 19.
In a related development, the Ogun State Police Command has ordered an investigation into a now-viral video depicting Portable being assaulted while in police custody. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather more details surrounding the video.
