The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, announced that it has reactivated the issuance of vehicle tinted glass permits across the country.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement said the reactivation of the approval for tinted glass permits for vehicle owners follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The FPRO explained that the IGP made the directive following several complaints by motorists on harassment by personnel on the use of tinted glass especially on vehicles with factory-fitted glasses.

He said, “With modern automobiles increasingly manufactured with tinted windows, it has become essential to provide a standardized system that accommodates legitimate use while ensuring public safety.

“Tinted vehicles have often been exploited for criminal purposes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-chance” scams, and other forms of banditry. Their use hampers police visibility and impedes effective law enforcement, thereby contributing to public insecurity,” Adejobi stated.

He said issuance of the permits can be issued through a secure and user-friendly digital platform available at https://possap.gov.ng.

He also noted that the reactivation of the issuance of the tinted glass permits would help the Force identify lawful users while preventing misuse by criminal elements.

He highlighted that the new permits can now be accessed online with identity verification integrated through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), alongside biometric capture and background checks.

He said that the new system of approval of permits works with features like the QR-coded digital permits with a streamlined processing timeline of 72 hours.

He added that the new directive comes with a 30-day grace period effective from May 1, to allow a smooth transition and give motorists time for compliance.

“Enforcement will commence at the end of this period. Officers found engaging in unprofessional conduct such as extortion or harassment in the course of enforcement will be decisively dealt with in accordance with extant disciplinary procedures.

“The Inspector-General of Police reiterates the Force’s commitment to a technologically driven and citizen-focused policing strategy. He urges the public to embrace the initiative in the interest of safer roads, enhanced public trust, and a more secure Nigeria,” Adejobi added.
