The Nigeria Police Force has announced a doubling of its operations to rescue six young girls abducted in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed this information in a statement on Saturday, following the reported killing of one of the girls, Najeebah, by the gunmen who had abducted her and her five sisters in Abuja.

Assuring the public, Adejobi stated that the police are implementing strategic plans to prevent further kidnappings nationwide. The abduction occurred on January 9 when Najeebah and her sisters were taken alongside their father. Subsequently, the gunmen released the father, instructing him to secure a N60 million ransom for the release of his daughters before January 12.

Tragically, due to the family’s inability to raise the money, the criminals allegedly killed Najeebah and left her body for her parents to bury. Adejobi disclosed that Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the reinforcement of tactical intelligence teams to combat kidnapping.

“In response to the abduction of six young girls in the Bwari Area Council, the Police Force has initiated a comprehensive plan of action. The Force Headquarters is coordinating efforts to address and prevent further occurrences, with a focus on rescuing the victims,” Adejobi explained. He emphasized the need for discretion to safeguard ongoing operations.

The FPRO urged the public to support the police by providing relevant information and revealed ongoing efforts to engage key individuals in the rescue operations. Additionally, recognizing the psychological toll on affected families, the police are encouraging open communication to offer support and assistance.

Meanwhile, IG Egbetokun has directed the deployment of police officers equipped with enhanced security measures along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway to ensure the safety of travelers in response to the escalating kidnappings in the region.
