The Lagos State Police Command has said no explosive device was found in two private schools located in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area after a full security check of the premises.

Bellnews reports that the police said the alarm began around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the schools reported at the Ikeja Divisional Headquarters that they had received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unknown phone number.

The messages claimed bombs had been planted inside the school compounds.

The reports caused fear among parents, staff and students, forcing the schools to shut down from Wednesday while security agencies moved in to assess the situation.

After receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Olohundare Jimoh, led a team of officers, including bomb disposal experts, the Rapid Response Squad and other tactical units, to inspect the schools.

The team carried out a detailed search of classrooms, offices, halls, playgrounds and nearby areas.

The Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, also visited the schools as part of the security response.

The police later announced that no explosive or dangerous object was discovered anywhere within the school environment and that the schools were safe to continue academic and office activities.

Security operatives have now begun efforts to track down the sender of the threat messages.

The police said they are working to trace the phone number used and identify those responsible for the false alert so they can be charged in court.

Police teams have also been stationed permanently around the affected schools to protect students, staff and school property.

The Lagos State Police Command assured parents, school owners and residents that it remains alert and ready to respond to any security concern across the state.

Members of the public were advised to stay calm, remain watchful and report any suspicious movement or information to the nearest police station or through the emergency contact lines provided by the command.
