Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revealed that his biggest regret in life is venturing into politics.

Bellnews reports that the ex-Anambra governor made this known while speaking as a guest at SMFest held in Owerri.

Obi reflected on his life journey, saying everything he has achieved came by grace.

He explained that he often measures what he gains and loses daily and feels content with the balance, but politics remains the one decision he sometimes wishes he had avoided.

He recounted how he left a successful corporate career to become the governor of Anambra State.

He said that before politics, he was the chairman of a bank and a director in several quoted companies.

He described the drastic change from attending board meetings and international retreats in cities like London and Cape Town to visiting remote villages and facing the difficult realities of governance.

He said, “Everything I have is by his grace. So he can’t give me everything that I need. But every day I can check what I’m getting and what I’m losing. And I said to myself, it’s more. If it’s more, what can I regret? Maybe going into politics.

“Because I was never a politician. I never had anything to do with this. And if I tell you my net worth then I became governor of my state, You people can go and see.

“What I became, imagine leaving the boardroom as a chairman of a bank. I was a director in about seven to eight quoted companies. Sharing three of them the day I was announced as governor. All I knew was go to board meetings, go for one retreat in London, South Africa, Cape Town.

“I never knew so many of the villages that I started visiting. And suddenly, I’m not in a place where it’s so difficult.”
