Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed his commendation for Nigerian Afrobeat stars, including Burnaboy, Davido, Ayrastarr, Olamide, Asake, and Tems, who were nominees for the recently concluded 66th Grammy Awards. Although none of them secured victory in their respective categories, Obi, in a statement via his X account on Monday, emphasized that losing out on the Grammy awards does not diminish the exceptional talents and capabilities of these artists.
Obi highlighted that the mere nomination of a significant number of Nigerian artists across various categories is a testament to the strides made by citizens in the global music industry. He celebrated their talents and creativity, acknowledging their vital contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s music and entertainment sector. Obi stressed that it is not about achieving 100% results but making 100% effort. He expressed pride in Nigeria’s massive recognition at the Grammy Awards, showcasing the nation’s tremendous talents and ideas.
The former governor projected the economic impact of the music and entertainment industry, estimating a generation of approximately $14.82 billion for the nation by 2025. Obi concluded by emphasizing the need for collective efforts to build a New Nigeria where more youth can discover their talents, develop their skills, and make global impacts.
