The councilorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Pari Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Raymond Timothy, has been reportedly shot dead by gunmen.

Reports revealed that the politician was murdered along with his brother, James Timothy.

Barnabas Chawai, a prominent member of the PDP in the local government, who shared details of the incident to The PUNCH, reported that the two were fatally attacked on Sunday evening while they were riding a motorcycle back from a political campaign event in Kizachi Village, located in Pari Ward, Kauru LG.

Chawai expressed concerns that the attack may have been politically motivated and called on security forces to take immediate action to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are held accountable.

“Drastic measures need to be put in place to forestall further occurrence as we approach the October 19 local government poll.

“The victim had three children and the wife was pregnant and expecting a fourth child,” Chawai said.

Also, the Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, John Wanneh, confirmed the attack saying they were together with the victim at around 6 pm and parted ways for him to return home to Bakin-Kogi.

“It was not more than 10 to 15 minutes when we parted ways that we heard gunshots around some guinea corn farms.

“Honestly, we cannot be able to say who are those that committed this crime or say the killing was connected to politics or not,” Wanneh added.

He appealed to the government to help construct a bridge and road for easy accessibility in an emergency.

“Security operatives cannot enter the village now because of the bad nature of the road, and there’s a river which they cannot cross, which has been our situation for a long time,” Wanneh lamented.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue any official statement regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report.
