The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has expressed condemnation over the reported shooting of actor Azeez Ijaduade by a policeman in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday night. Alamutu visited Ijaduade at the In-Patient Wards of the Babcock University Teaching Hospital on Sunday morning, where the actor was admitted after the incident.
During an exclusive interview with PUNCH Metro, Alamutu revealed that the officer who fired the shot is undergoing disciplinary actions. According to the Police Commissioner, the unnamed officer discharged a bullet into the air to disperse a group of thugs attempting to mob the individual he was protecting.
Alamutu expressed regret over the incident, deeming it unfortunate and unnecessary. He conveyed relief that Ijaduade is in stable condition and anticipates the actor’s discharge once he is certified fit by the medical professionals. Alamutu clarified that the victim was not directly hit but was in the vicinity when the shot was fired.
He emphasized the importance of preserving lives and assured that the involved policeman would face disciplinary measures. The Police Commissioner criticized the lack of professionalism in the officer’s actions, stating that the shooting could not be justified, and the officer would be held accountable for his conduct.
