Prominent businessman and nightlife entrepreneur, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has openly aligned with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections through the South-East chapter of the City Boy Movement.
His support became public after he received an appointment as the South-East Coordinator of the movement, a political support group linked to the president’s re-election ambition.
The appointment was presented to him by Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, during a late-night visit to his residence in Abuja.
Obi Cubana confirmed the development in a social media post on Tuesday. He said the visit was not only for the presentation of the certificate but also for discussions on national matters and the future of the country.
“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” he stated.
The Anambra-born businessman said his decision to accept the role was deliberate and guided by his belief in engagement rather than distance from the political process. He noted that the reactions from the public had been mixed but insisted that progress requires involvement.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.
He stressed that his new political role would not weaken his values or personal principles. According to him, integrity, community service, and responsible leadership would remain central to his actions.
“I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside—so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out,” he declared.
Obi Cubana also described President Tinubu as a man rooted in commerce and enterprise. He said his duty as coordinator would focus on unity and inclusion across the South-East and beyond.
“All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he added.
He called on Nigerians to tolerate opposing views and channel their energy into productive dialogue and national growth.
“Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now—we move!” he stated.
Furthermore, the businessman thanked those who have supported him and assured them that his involvement in the movement would promote a broader and more inclusive future for the country.
