The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has asserted its commitment to preventing electoral malpractices during the upcoming February 3 rerun for the State House of Assembly in five registered areas comprising 9 polling units in the state.
Sani Muspha, the State’s NSCDC Commander, conveyed this commitment in a statement released by CDPRO Ikor Oche, the Command’s spokesperson, while expressing appreciation for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) successful conduct of past elections.
Muspha emphasized the Corps’s preparedness to collaborate with sister agencies to ensure the rerun’s flawless success. Oche highlighted that the State NSCDC boss issued a stern warning against any form of violence, affirming the Corps’s dedication to providing ample security coverage during and after the rerun election in Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The statement underscored the Commandant’s assurance to the electoral umpire of a smooth and trouble-free rerun, indicating that the Command has already devised strategies for the successful execution of the election.
Prof S.B Ahmad, the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, commended the NSCDC’s resilience in previous elections and its role in maintaining security in the State. He recognized the NSCDC as a significant stakeholder in the nation’s electoral processes and stated, “the Commission deemed it fit to consult with the Corps and other security agencies in order to chart a way forward for the success of the rerun election slated on the 3rd February 2024.”
