From Ijeoma Nwajiobi, Nnewi
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairmanship Aspirant,Hon. Nnanna Nzewi (Otabilionyenwanneya) has withdrawn from the party’s council primary election, endorsing the Mayor, Hon. Echezona Anazodo for completion of a four – year tenure.
Hon.Nnanna Nzewi during a press conference held on Saturday, January 31 withdrew from his aspiration ahead of the primary election scheduled to hold on February, 15, 2026 across Anambra State in compliance with the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, he agreed to support the Mayor for the sake of peace in Nnewi, urging every peace loving person in Nnewichi to toll the same part and allow the people of Umudim to complete their four years as contained in updated Nnewi North Chairmanship equity charter of 2026 as also clarified by those who crafted the rotational agreement in 1997 that are still alive and mentally sound.
He clarified that there is no micro zoning of political offices in Nnewichi, adding that if there will be tomorrow, it will start clockwise and anti clockwise.
“I repeat, APGA Nnewi will not be arm twisted with micro zoning. It will only be an understanding by the quarters involved but zoning of Chairmanship to Abubor, then House of Assembly to the same Abubor has shown that the current leadership of Nnewichi has not removed the log of wood in their eyes while directing the BoT of Nnewi Town Union to remove theirs” he argued.
Nzewi noted that everybody is now in APGA because of the good works Governor Soludo has done for the people of Nnewi and all over Anambra in his first term, making him the first APGA Governor to embark on the dualization of all major roads in Nnewi and neighbouring communities into a dual carriage road network.
He expressed that rotation of Nnewi North Chairmanship was seemly a genuine course from outside for the people of Nnewichi before the community agendist decided to play the negative card openly.
For enduring peace in Nnewi, Nzewi pleaded that the following should be done ;
“PG of Umudim should apologize to the people of Nnewichi for the unguided utterances.
“Our brother Austin Manuel should openly apologize to one of our Nnewi living legends, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, Founder, Gabros International and also the people of Nnewichi.
“All court cases for and against Nnewichi, Umudim and against Nnewi sons should be withdrawn with immediate effect.
“The PG of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi should please recall his secretary and other officers sacked during the crisis with open apology because we are all brothers and for the sake of peace.
He therefore urged the good people of Nnewi to allow Mayor Echezona Anazodo to complete the remaining two years for the massive transformation of Nnewi in road and infrastructure revolution under Mr Governor’s administration to the credit of the Mayor.
He reaffirmed that in two years time, the Chairmanship position would naturally come to Nnewichi as agreed, assuring his people that their great paty, APGA would abide and triumph.
He appreciated Chief Cletus Ibeto, a major APGA stakeholder in Nnewi for reintegrating Nnewi fully back into APGA under Governor Soludo, stressing it was because of him that men and women who are APGA members in Nnewi are still standing in the midst of their colleagues in Anambra State without shame and reproach.
In addition, he pleaded with Bishop Jonas Benson to recall their brother, Sir James Okoye to faith in line with the open letter of admonition written by their Nnewi son, Bishop Ndubuisi Obi of the Anglican Church, and also pleaded that Sir Okoye should show restraint and Christ Love over social media traffic.
Personally, he further urged that late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s signature should be around the cathedral even if it means naming the tower after his patron saint.
The event witnessed unveiling of what Nzewi called “Greater Nnewi Movement” meant to support Hon.Echezona Anazodo for continuity.
