The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, to commence an investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct made against Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows public concern triggered by a series of allegations that have circulated extensively on social media over the past few days.
Reports had earlier indicated that the cleric stepped aside from his pastoral responsibilities on New Year’s Day as the controversy intensified, with several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, publicly accusing him of various forms of sexual and emotional misconduct.
Bellnews reports that during a church service last Sunday, Okafor publicly apologised to Ogala, kneeling on the altar as he acknowledged making ‘mistakes’ and sought forgiveness.
The apology came weeks after the pastor married a new wife, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, at a ceremony attended by notable clerics.
Initially, the Lagos State Police Command had stated that it could not take action against the pastor because no formal complaint had been submitted by any of the alleged victims.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, explained on Friday that the police were unaware of any official petition despite the allegations trending online.
However, following renewed enquiries and direct communication with the Commissioner of Police on Saturday night, Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that CP Jimoh had ordered the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning and also reach out to the alleged victims.
According to her, the commissioner directed that the cleric be investigated even in the absence of a formal petition, while potential witnesses and complainants are to be summoned to provide statements to aid the inquiry.
Adebisi further disclosed that she personally contacted a YouTuber who had interviewed some of the alleged victims in order to obtain direct access to individuals willing to cooperate with investigators.
The allegations against Okafor first surfaced publicly on December 14, when actress Doris Ogala released a series of emotional videos on Instagram.
In the posts, she alleged that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with the pastor from 2017, lasting about nine years, during which he repeatedly promised to marry her.
Ogala claimed that the cleric later married another woman, despite those assurances.
She also accused him of sharing explicit images and videos of her without consent, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing her emotional trauma and financial hardship.
As part of her claims, Ogala shared screenshots of alleged conversations and bedroom photographs. She further alleged that the pastor attempted to pay her $10,000 to withdraw her accusations and accuse a rival cleric of orchestrating the scandal.
Through her lawyers, Ogala later issued a legal notice demanding N1 billion in damages, citing alleged threats, intimidation, arrest, and detention following her public disclosures.
As the controversy widened, additional women came forward with separate allegations of sexual misconduct, manipulation, and infidelity against the cleric.
Among them was Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, who accused him of deception, repeated infidelity, and physical abuse.
