The Lagos State Government has revealed that the repair works on the Third Mainland Bridge will resume on Tuesday, January 9. The bridge, initially closed to traffic in November 2023, was temporarily reopened on December 21 to facilitate smoother traffic flow during the Yuletide season.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained in a statement that the closure is necessary to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to continue repair activities on specific sections of the bridge. The upcoming closure will primarily affect the Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele section, focusing on comprehensive repairs for the entire segment.
Osiyemi assured that arrangements have been made to minimize commuting challenges during the repair period. He outlined the schedule, stating that from 12 am to 12 noon, the bridge will be open for Mainland inbound Island travelers. Conversely, from 12 noon to 12 am, motorists will have access from the Island to the Mainland. Those traveling from the Mainland to the Island are advised to use the Eko Bridge during this period.
The selected timings aim to align with peak traffic periods and reduce travel stress. The commissioner urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials and expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding and cooperation, emphasizing the collective effort to ensure road safety.
