Kwara Fire Incident: Residents Suffer Losses Valued at N23.8 Million

The recent fire outbreak in Kwara, specifically at the Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin, the state capital, resulted in property losses estimated at N23.8 million. The incident occurred on Saturday, affecting seven flats and two shops at number 5, Ado compound.

The fire extensively damaged three out of the seven flats and completely destroyed the two shops, leaving no items unscathed. Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity for Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, highlighting the commendable efforts of the fire service personnel in minimizing the damage caused by the fire.

While some rooms in the building were spared from the flames, significant losses in terms of goods and property were incurred, amounting to millions. The investigation into the incident identified the cause of the fire as a power surge in the area.

Hassan Adekunle stated, “Total estimated property saved is N47.4 million, and total estimated property lost is N23.8 million.” Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of residents adopting preventive measures. He recommended the habit of disabling electrical appliances before bedtime to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks in homes, offices, and consequently minimize the occurrence of fire incidents.
