A two-storey building collapsed at Nomansland in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday morning, claiming the lives of two persons.
The incident occurred around 2 am amidst a heavy downpour.
According to eyewitnesses, the building collapsed due to the overflow of a nearby waterway, which weakened the structure’s foundation. The building, located close to the waterway, was unable to withstand the pressure, resulting in its collapse.
Rescue efforts were swift, with the Kano State Fire Service and other emergency responders rushing to the scene.
So far, two persons have been rescued alive and taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, two others lost their lives in the disaster.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, stating that the rescue operation was ongoing.
“We have rescued two persons alive and taken them to the hospital, while two others are dead. We are still searching for more survivors,” he said.
