Panic broke out on Wednesday morning when a moving trailer unknowingly dropped a bag filled with live bullets along the Zaria–Sokoto highway, close to the Ahmadu Bello University.
The ammunition pack reportedly slipped off from a vehicle believed to have passed through the route, heavily loaded, while the driver remained oblivious to the fall.
Eyewitnesses whose voices were heard in a video clip shared with Naija News on Wednesday (today) said the bag was spotted on the highway tapering near the university’s perimeter, where students and travellers often connect buses heading north.
“Asalama Ailaikum people. It was in a certain car that drove through this route. The driver didn’t know that the bullet bag had fallen,” one voice in the clip stated.
Another voice suggested the vehicle was loaded beyond capacity.
The car was filled with loads,” the voice said.
Amid tension, concerned residents cautioned passers-by to avoid tampering with the ammunition, drawing links to the expanding threat of terrorism, banditry, and mass kidnapping.
“Perhaps it is late before the content was discovered to be bullets,” the source said, adding in Hausa-accented English: “Don’t touch it!”
In other news earlier, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed the abduction of ten residents of Isapa Community in the state’s southern region after a fresh bandit attack.
Bellnews reports that Isapa, situated a few kilometres from Eruku, was thrown into panic on Monday evening when gunmen stormed the area – barely 48 hours after the community celebrated the release of 38 church members kidnapped during a service at CAC Oke-Isegun last week.
Police spokesperson, Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, said in a statement that the attack occurred around 6:05 pm, with assailants identified as suspected herders opening fire indiscriminately.
The statement read, “At about 1830hrs on 24th November 2025, the command received distress information on sporadic gunfire within Isapa Community via Obbo-Ile Village. Preliminary findings revealed that at about 1805hrs, a group of armed men, suspected to be herders, invaded the village, firing sporadically. A woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg; she has since been treated and discharged. Further investigations revealed that 10 persons were abducted.”
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, immediately visited the community to assess the security situation and reassure residents.
During the visit, he met with the Onisapa of Isapa Land, Oba Gbenga Adeyeye, and the Olokesa of Okesa Land, Oba Olu Fagbamila Raphael Olusegun, as well as youth and community leaders.
He assured them that the police would intensify efforts to rescue the victims and restore public confidence.
He added that a coordinated search-and-rescue operation is ongoing, involving police tactical teams and local vigilantes who are combing the surrounding bushes believed to be used as hideouts by the attackers.
