The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of its governorship primaries initially scheduled for December 2, 2025, citing the worsening leadership crisis at the national level.
State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday, explaining that the internal turmoil in the national hierarchy had rendered it impossible to proceed with the statutory processes required for the primaries.
Bisi began by clarifying that Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke had fulfilled all requirements for participation in the primary election.
According to him, “His Excellency… purchased and submitted the expression of interest and nomination forms within the stipulated window… He was screened, cleared without reservations, and issued a Certificate of Clearance in accordance with party procedures.”
The chairman said the escalation of the crisis, marked by “the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers”, crippled the party’s ability to conduct the ad-hoc ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24 and 29.
“These are the very congresses where delegates to the primaries are elected,” Bisi stressed, adding that several of the disputes were now before courts across the country.
He noted that without delegates, holding a proper primary was impossible.
Primary No Longer Feasible, Adeleke May Withdraw
“In light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled,” the state party chairman declared.
Bisi further dropped a major revelation, stating that Governor Adeleke, the only aspirant who purchased and submitted nomination forms, might withdraw from the race if the crisis persists.
According to him: “The information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may not, any longer, be interested in seeking the nomination of the PDP for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election, except a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline.”
