Independence: The Union Jack or Union Flag is the de facto national flag of the United Kingdom.The flag continues to have official status in Canada, by parliamentary resolution, where it is known as the Royal Union Flag. The Union Flag was also used as the official flag of several British colonies and dominions before they adopted their own national flags.
Thus, the Nigerian Independent Day Celebration is a day we celebrate our adoption of our National Flag of Green, White, Green. Today simply mark the 64th celebration of this independence.
64 years ago when the first exercise was carried out, the Federal Republic of Nigeria nearly depended on Nnewi sons to function optimally. The towering among them is Lord Louis Philipe Odumegwu Ojukwu. He was like Dangote of Africa then , but slightly more influential than Dangote. Within the period under review, we equally had Dr. Prince Akweke Abyssinia Nwafor Orizu (GCON); the First President of the Senate and Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We hard Chief Ejike Chidoluo (Ezeoyoyo Nnewi) the first National Chairman of NCNC and a Parliamentarian of the Eastern House of Assembly, we hard Rapuruchukwu and Chu Okongwu together with business mogul like Ekenedilichukwu Transport Limited to mention a few. Nigeria was in Nnewi.
Today, 64 years after, I am looking for whom to mention and the only two I could have mention , we are waiting for their funeral; Ozi Uzo Nnewi in business circle and Distinguished Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah in political circle. A black Catholic Scholar once said, today is all saints day, but he has no brother to remember. A way of saying we have no black saints. Today, is independent day celebration and Nigeria in totality do not have any Nnewi presence to reference save for IVM.
We have a responsibility and a call to mentor future Nnewi generation and not that of continous internal feud of who produces a village President, Chairman, House Member et al. We must aim high if not higher and we must re-elect or select our first 30 across all works of life to redesign another future away from this prison. The present Nnewi appear to be free, but everywhere in chains. WE NEED INTERNAL INDEPENDENCE TO GO AND JOIN THE WORLD 🌎.
