Lucky Imasuen, former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has opted out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election scheduled for today in Edo.

Imasuen’s withdrawal was conveyed through a letter released on Saturday morning. He was among the 12 governorship aspirants cleared by a committee established by the APC National Working Committee.

In his withdrawal letter addressed to his supporters, Imasuen cited the interest of peace and unity as the rationale behind his decision. He noted the party leadership’s decision to zone the governorship ticket to the Central Senatorial District, stating his alignment with this directive.

Imasuen expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering backing throughout his campaign, acknowledging their dedication and passion as the driving force behind his candidacy. While acknowledging the weightiness of his decision, he urged continued support for the party’s collective objectives.

Imasuen affirmed his readiness to support the eventual APC candidate emerging from the primary election.

Meanwhile, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu also withdrew from the race, a decision communicated through a withdrawal letter sent on Friday to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the acting state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe. Ize-Iyamu’s withdrawal, though unexpected, signals significant developments in the APC governorship race in Edo State.
