The legendary Brazilian footballer, Mario Zagallo, has passed away at the age of 92. The sad news was officially confirmed in a statement on Saturday by the President of the Brazilian Soccer Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Zagallo etched his name in football history by playing in a record five World Cup finals, achieving victory in four instances, both as a player and later as a coach with Brazil. He holds the distinction of being the first individual to secure a World Cup championship in both roles.

In the official statement, Rodrigues expressed deep sorrow for the loss of Zagallo, describing him as “one of the biggest legends” in the sport. He extended heartfelt condolences to the family and fans, acknowledging the departure of this remarkable hero of Brazilian soccer.

Zagallo concluded his professional playing career in 1965 and embarked on a coaching journey, commencing with Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo in the subsequent year. His contributions to both playing and coaching have left an indelible mark on the world of football.
