Markets across Ibadan will be closed on Friday, September 26, 2025, as traders honour the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.
Bellnews reports that the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Asiwaju Yekeen Abass, announced the directive, saying the closure would serve as a mark of respect for the new monarch.
He explained that all markets within the eleven local government areas of Ibadanland, including those in the city centre and surrounding communities, will suspend trading for the day.
In a statement made available to journalists, Abass congratulated Oba Ladoja on behalf of the market leaders’ council, zonal executives, and the entire trading community in Oyo State.
“We pray for a peaceful, prosperous, and impactful reign that will bring progress to Ibadanland and Oyo State as a whole,” Abass said.
The Babaloja General also encouraged traders to attend the coronation ceremony at Mapo Hall, describing it as a historic occasion that required the support and reverence of the people.
He further extended birthday wishes to the new monarch, saying, “We wish Kabiyesi many happy returns and continued good health.”
Bellnews understands that monarchs and prominent persons will attend the coronation of the former governor of Oyo State.
