A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and prominent socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has declared her strong opposition to any political arrangement that makes former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, a running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
Bellnews reports that Yesufu made the statement in a viral video currently circulating on social media, warning that she would campaign against any such ticket, even if it comes from her own party.
The activist, who played a key role in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party, argued that the former governor stands out among all known aspirants and deserves to be a frontrunner, not a vice-presidential candidate.
She said, “I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket.
“In my little capacity, I will work against them even if I don’t support any other candidates. Why are we always asking the best to be the second?”
Yesufu questioned the logic of consistently relegating competent candidates to supporting roles, insisting that Nigeria deserves better leadership choices.
