The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that Nigerians who are not members of the APC now constitute a political minority.
Bellnews reports that Yilwatda made the remark on Tuesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, during the official defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the APC.
The defection ceremony marked a major political development in the state, as Governor Mutfwang formally pitched his tent with the ruling party, further strengthening the APC’s foothold in Plateau.
Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders at the event, Yilwatda described the APC as the dominant political force across the state.
‘Others Are Minorities’
According to the APC chairman, the party has secured overwhelming grassroots support in Plateau, leaving other political parties with little relevance.
He said, “Every other person who is not in APC is a minority. From all the wards in Plateau, everybody is in APC.”
Yilwatda went on to call on politicians and supporters still loyal to other parties to consider joining the APC, describing the ruling party as a safe haven amid what he termed the decline of opposition platforms.
“Let me invite the remaining minorities who are left in other political parties. I want to appeal to you for your goodness. I want to give you the last opportunity,” he said.
The APC chairman further urged opposition members to take advantage of the party’s ongoing registration exercise, warning that other political parties were struggling to stay afloat.
“I will give the chance that we are doing our online registration, and the window is open. We are throwing it lifeline. Come to our party and rescue yourselves because other political parties are drowning,” Yilwatda added.
The remarks come amid rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with defections continuing to reshape the balance of power across several states.
