Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has eulogised the late Muhammadu Buhari.
Oshiomhole, a serving Senator at the National Assembly said the late former president protected him during his time as the national chairman of the ruling party.
Speaking during the Senate’s special session in honour of the late Buhari, the lawmaker said his work as party chairman was made easy by the former president.
According to Oshiomhole, at a point when some governors within the party ganged up against him, the president stood by him and defended him.
His words, “As chairman of the APC, just to tell you how principled former President Buhari can be. Some governors went to him and they had complaints about me and whether they were valid or not valid.
“And they made all kinds of allegations, they didn’t need to substantiate them and they were in good numbers. President Buhari said to them, these matters, those that have to do with the party; chief of staff, then Abba Kyari, please lead the governors to go and meet the chairman of the party.
“The chairman of the party will resolve party issues, the president of Nigeria does not get involved in internal party issues.
“And those governors came to my office and because of what they wanted to do with President Buhari in my absence, they couldn’t do it and later, one after the other, they confessed that they really didn’t have valid allegations.
“And for other allegations they made, President Buhari said, “if you’re sure of your words, go and put them in writing and I will deal with them officially.”
“So, as chairman of APC, I had a President who watched over me, stood by me and defended me when it was necessary,” Oshiomhole stated.
