Akwa United’s search for a new head coach has attracted applications from prominent coaches, both domestically and internationally, according to the club’s chairman, Paul Bassey.
The former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League find themselves in need of a new manager following the departure of Fatai Osho earlier this week. Bassey emphasized that they are in no rush to finalize the appointment and are currently under the interim leadership of assistant coaches, with Umar Abdullahi at the helm.
“We have received numerous applications from both within the country and abroad, and we are taking our time to make a decision. As of now, the assistant coaches, led by Umar Abdullahi, are in charge of the team,” stated Bassey in a communication to the club’s media.
With Akwa United currently positioned in 17th place on the NPFL table, the decision to choose the right coach is crucial for the club’s resurgence. Their next fixture is against Sunshine Stars on Thursday in a matchday 15 encounter.
