Gradually every quarter of Nnewi is getting its own share of erosion menace as new erosion set to sweep homes between Akamili Nnewi and UmuEzeagu community of Umudim and Uruagu Nnewi respectively.
Recall that during the Gov Obiano administration two major erosion site threatened to take Obiofia Nnewichi Community and Okpuno Uruagu Nnewi Community if not for the swift intervention of His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, through the instrumentality of Hon Meriee Onyejepu OGBUEFI among other appointees of ex-Gov Obiano’s administration of Nnewi extraction.
If not for the Government of the day, Nkwo Nnewi may have to relocate because the rapid advancement of that of Okpuno Uruagu towards Nkwo Nnewi.
Today, Akamili Umudim Nnewi Community and UmuEzeagu Uruagu Community appears to be facing the most dreaded erosion in Nnewi as it moves with the speed of lightening towards homes and has already cut off the link road.
According to eye witness report, this erosion is unique because it continous to advance even in dry season and trembling have ceased the people living around the surrounding as its gradually becoming a case of no where to run to or relocate to for safety.
As at the time of filing this report, its gathered that no agency of government; Local Government, State Government or Federal Government have visited the site. All measures to control the erosion is done manually by the immediate villages and its gradually becoming worrisome.
The leadership of this community must come together and make an official press release concerning this erosion so that the government will understand its urgency and intervene before it start swallowing homes in the area.
