Sixty-six prominent politicians from various political parties, along with their supporters, were on Friday received into the Labour Party (LP) in Ukwa West Local Government Area by Governor Alex Otti.

Ukwa West has traditionally been a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the party winning elections in the area from 1999 until 2023.

Among those who defected to the LP were Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke, former Deputy Speaker; Ngozi Ulunwa, former Secretary to the Abia State Government; Ralph Egbu; Uche Nwaele; Ugoeze Ogbonna; Lucky Ejiogu; and several grassroots politicians from PDP, APGA, and other parties.

Receiving the new members at Obehie Central School in Ukwa West LGA, Governor Otti thanked them for joining the LP and urged others who were still hesitant to follow suit.

“Now is the time to join us before it is too late,” Otti said, appealing to political leaders and grassroots supporters to align with the party.

”I truly, truly welcome our new members and their followers. If there are a few more people who are still doubting, please let them know that they need to board the train before it leaves the station,” Gov. Otti stated.

He stated that the primary focus of his administration was to restore the dignity of the people of Abia.

As part of this commitment, he announced plans to construct a mini-stadium in Ukwa West and directed the Mayor of the Council to survey and fence the proposed site.

He also urged the Obehie community to permit Inner Galaxy Company to establish the proposed skills acquisition centre at a location of its choosing within Obehie, emphasising that there was no need for disputes over the project’s site.

Welcoming the new members, the acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Nwaeze Oti, noted that Governor Otti’s performance was a key factor attracting more politicians and grassroots supporters to the party.
